Summer may not feel like it is coming to an end in Central Florida just yet, but at SeaWorld parks, the final nights of Electric Ocean are quickly approaching.
Only four performances remain for some of the park’s signature summer entertainment, including Sea Lions Tonight, Touch the Sky, Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up the Night and the spectacular drone show that has illuminated the skies above SeaWorld throughout the season. For guests hoping to squeeze in one more summer evening at the park or those who still haven’t experienced Electric Ocean at all – this is officially the last call.
Electric Ocean once again transformed the park after dark this summer, giving the park an entirely different energy. As the sun disappeared over the horizon, music filled the pathways, vibrant lighting washed over familiar areas, coasters illuminated the skyline, and several of SeaWorld’s signature animal presentations received specialty evening counterparts created specifically for the season.
This year’s entertainment lineup gave guests plenty of reasons to remain in the park long after the afternoon crowds began heading home.
At Sea Lion & Otter Stadium, Sea Lions Tonight brings a completely different personality to SeaWorld’s traditional sea lion presentation. Packed with comedy, familiar references and plenty of self-aware humor, the show gives the sea lions, otters and their trainers an opportunity to poke a little fun at SeaWorld itself while delivering one of the park’s most lighthearted seasonal productions.
Over at Dolphin Stadium, Touch the Sky showcases SeaWorld’s bottlenose dolphins through a combination of animal behavior, music and theatrical lighting. As daylight fades and the colors of the evening sky settle over the stadium, the production takes on an atmosphere distinctly different from anything guests experience there during the day. The show also underwent a noticeable change partway through this summer’s run when its in-water trainer interactions, commonly referred to as waterwork, were unexpectedly removed from the presentation following a corporate-level decision. The change altered one of Touch the Sky’s signature elements and left guests confused.
And then there is Shamu’s Celebration: Light Up the Night.
Its return to Orca Stadium this summer marked one of SeaWorld Orlando’s most notable entertainment developments of the season. After years without a specialty summer evening orca presentation, Light Up the Night brought that energy back to the stadium with music, dramatic lighting and a celebratory nighttime show that stands apart from the park’s daytime Orca Encounter. For regular park goers in particular, its return represented something many had been hoping to see again: specialty animal presentations that turn an evening at the park into an event of its own.
Once the stadium performances conclude, Electric Ocean turns its attention toward the sky. SeaWorld’s drone spectacular has served as a grand finale to summer evenings, sending hundreds of synchronized drones overhead to form enormous illuminated images inspired by the ocean and its wildlife. Whales, sea turtles and other marine imagery emerge against the night sky as technology, music and storytelling combine for one final spectacle before guests make their way toward the park gates.
Soon, the lights will come down on another Electric Ocean season. Sea Lions Tonight will take its final bows, the dolphins of Touch the Sky will complete their last evening performances, and Light Up the Night will illuminate Orca Stadium for the final time this summer. The drones will make their final journeys above SeaWorld before disappearing from the nighttime sky as well.
So, if there is one more show you wanted to catch, one more summer evening you wanted to spend wandering SeaWorld after dark, or one more chance you wanted to see Orca Stadium illuminated beneath the lights, this is it.
Electric Ocean takes its final bow of the season this Monday, September 7th.
