SeaWorld Orlando has a special birthday to celebrate! Nalani, one of the park’s resident orcas, turns 20 years old on Friday, September 18, 2026. Known for her playful personality, graceful movements, and impressive performances, Nalani has become a familiar face to generations of guests who have watched her grow up at the park.
Born on September 18, 2006, Nalani is the daughter of Katina and Taku. She was Katina’s sixth calf and has spent her entire life at SeaWorld Orlando. Her family history is closely tied to the park, with several relatives having called Orlando home over the years, including her younger half-brother, Makaio, born in October 2010, who also lives at the park.
Nalani’s mother, Katina, was one of SeaWorld Orlando’s most recognizable orcas before her passing in December 2025. Known for her powerful presence, friendly nature, and remarkable athleticism, Katina left behind a lasting legacy at the park. Nalani seems to have inherited her mother’s impressive athleticism, soaring above the water with the same power and grace that made Katina’s jumps so memorable.
Nalani has developed a reputation among regular guests as both playful and graceful. Her interactions with trainers often showcase her energetic personality, while her movements during presentations demonstrate the impressive strength and agility of a killer whale. She is also a solid, reliable performer who consistently brings her own personality to the presentations she participates in.
One particularly memorable moment came during a performance of When One World Meets Another, when Nalani was paired with trainer Justin. The energy between the two was electric, with Justin matching Nalani’s enthusiasm throughout the presentation. Their infectious energy and natural chemistry brought the presentation to life, making it a standout performance of the season. When Nalani is feeling a moment, she makes sure the entire stadium is right there with her! Her grace pairs very nicely with her powerhouse tankmate, Malia.
Nalani is one of four orcas residing at SeaWorld Orlando, alongside Malia, Trua, and Makaio. Although all four call the park home, Nalani currently shares an enclosure exclusively with Malia. The two generally get along well, although, like any pair of roommates, they occasionally have their moments. During performances, they couldn’t be better complements. Nalani’s grace perfectly matches Malia’s athleticism.
Of course, a milestone birthday calls for a little celebration! Nalani’s 20th birthday festivities include special Jell-O treats made by her trainers and birthday songs sung by trainers and guests during the Orca Up Close Tour.
